Picked a hand pump over a generator for my well, here's how it went

I had to choose between dropping $800 on a backup generator or a $150 hand pump from Lehman's for my well up near Conway. Took a chance on the hand pump since I'm trying to rely less on gas and more on muscle. Three weeks later lost power for 4 days straight and that pump got me 10 gallons a day easy. Anyone else ditch the noisy stuff for something simpler?

My neighbor down the road has a fancy generator that sits in his shed most of the time. Last storm he spent two hours trying to get it started while I was already pumping water. I've noticed people overthink this stuff. The simple solutions usually work when the fancy stuff doesn't.

My uncle does the same with his expensive tools. Simple always wins in the end.
