Put a 2 inch body lift on my Tacoma expecting it to be easy, ended up fighting with the steering shaft for 4 hours
I figured a body lift would be a weekend project, maybe 6 hours total. Got the blocks in fine on Saturday morning, but the steering shaft extension just would not line up. Spent a whole afternoon cursing at it with a pry bar and a mallet. What I learned is that you really gotta loosen the steering rack bolts to get enough play. Ended up having to call a buddy to hold the shaft while I threaded it from underneath. Has anyone else had trouble with the steering shaft on a 2nd gen Tacoma body lift?

4 hours on the steering shaft" sounds like a bad date, not a lift install.

Dude, @piperr58 nailed it lol... but seriously, that steering shaft fight is no joke. Had the exact same problem on my 04, spent a whole afternoon cussing and prying before I figured out you gotta unbolt the rack completely. Even then, I ended up with a busted knuckle and a stripped bolt from the extension kit. Felt like the truck was just laughing at me while I lay there under it.
