That time my aunt's Ninja air fryer at a church potluck in Des Moines changed how I cook chicken
I was at a potluck three years ago and my aunt brought these wings that were crispy on the outside but still juicy inside. She told me she gave up her deep fryer after getting that Ninja for $80 on sale. Took me about 5 batches at home before I figured out the right temp and time for thighs. Now I barely use my oven for anything besides baking. Has anyone else had a specific dish that sold you on the air fryer?

Oh man, I read somewhere that air fryers basically work like a convection oven on steroids, basically just blasting hot air all around the food. It makes sense why that crust gets so good! Those wings sound like the perfect test run.

Yeah air fryers are exactly that, just a tiny convection oven on crack. The secret is all that hot air hitting every side of the food at once, no cold spots like a regular oven. That's why wings come out with that crunchy skin without needing a deep fryer full of oil. I got one a few years back and honestly use it way more than my actual oven now, especially for things like chicken or frozen stuff.

...and honestly I think people are kinda overhyping air fryers. I tried my buddy's Ninja at a tailgate last year and those wings came out okay, but not life-changing like everyone says. The texture was uneven, some parts were dry while others were still kinda rubbery, and I had to shake the basket like four times to get it even close to what a deep fryer does in one go. Plus cleaning that stupid basket afterwards is a pain, all those little nooks and crannies trap grease. Give me a regular cast iron skillet with some oil any day, it's less fuss and the crust is way better in my opinion.
