Tried the fancy expensive soil mix at Osuna Nursery and my tomatoes actually took off after years of struggling with the cheap stuff from the big box stores.
I switched to a blend with perlite and compost instead of just the basic garden soil and within two weeks the leaves turned dark green and I got flowers for the first time in three seasons - has anyone else noticed a huge difference with specific soil blends around here?

I used to think soil was soil and you were just paying for the bag. But I grabbed that exact perlite and compost mix after seeing this and holy cow. My tomatoes actually look alive now.

Oh man, I had the exact same thing happen but with my peppers last year. I was just grabbing whatever bag of dirt was cheapest at the big box store and wondering why everything looked so sad. Then my neighbor who's been gardening since the 80s told me about adding perlite and I was like "what is that even for?" She tried to explain drainage and aeration but honestly it went over my head at first. But then I tried it and it was night and day. My jalapenos went from these tiny little things to actually looking like something you'd buy at the store. It's funny how the smallest change can make such a huge difference.
