Finally got my friend to stop calling the 'Attack on Titan' ending a plot hole

He kept saying the whole final twist came out of nowhere, but I sat him down and we rewatched the first season together. I pointed out three specific scenes, like the one where Eren's dad talks about the basement in episode 5, that directly set it up. It took about an hour, but he finally saw the clues were there the whole time. It just needed you to pay attention to the smaller details, not just the big fights. Has anyone else had to walk someone back through an anime because they missed the setup?

My brother did this with a movie's twist ending last week, same deal. People just miss the quiet moments that build the story, right?

Ever try to explain a plot to someone who only watches during the fight scenes?

What if the fight scenes are the actual plot? Take a movie like Fury Road. You could skip the five minutes of people staring at sand and still get the whole story from the chases. Some movies are just vehicles to get to the next big set piece, and that's fine. The quiet moments are often just filler between the good parts anyway.
