That debate about dubbing vs subbing people keep using old data from the 90s

I was in a thread yesterday on Anime Discussions where someone claimed subs are always better because dubs sound stiff and fake. But that was true back in like 1995 when they used a tiny voice cast for everything. Shows like Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist proved dubs could be amazing, and modern shows like Spy x Family have incredible voice work on both sides. Has anyone else noticed people parroting this same argument without actually watching a recent dub?

That "dubs sound stiff and fake" line is super outdated. Just point them to something recent like Dorohedoro or the newest Fruits Basket dubs, they do the original justice.

Wait, people are seriously still making that argument in 2024? That "stiff and fake" critique has been dead for like twenty years now.
