Went to an anime convention in Cleveland last weekend and something felt off
I hit up this small con at the convention center, maybe 400 people, and I noticed nobody was talking about the actual shows they were watching - it was all about cosplay photos and booth buys. Like, I overheard a group debating the best way to attach wings to a costume for 20 minutes, but not one person brought up a specific episode or plot twist. Has anyone else seen conventions turn into more of a fashion show than a place to geek out over storylines?

Man, I feel this so hard. I went to a con last year and ended up spending an hour in a panel titled "How to weather your cosplay boots" and not a single person mentioned a show. Meanwhile I'm over here still trying to figure out if that twist in episode 7 actually happened or if I was just hallucinating from the lack of sleep. I guess I'm just old and crotchety but I miss when people would argue about which character had the best redemption arc instead of which glue brand holds fake horns better.

Argue about character arcs all day but at least cosplayers actually make something instead of just talking.
