TIL most fridge compressors are only about 60% efficient
I was reading an old trade manual from the 90s I found at a garage sale. It said a standard fridge compressor loses nearly 40% of its energy just as waste heat. I always knew they got hot, but that number is huge. Makes you think about all the units we fix that are just burning power. Anyone else seen stats that made you look at a common part differently?

That explains why the back of my fridge is always so warm!

Did you try pulling it out and vacuuming the coils?

But what if the dust is actually helping insulate it?
