Warning: I chose a rebuilt compressor over a new unit for a 2018 Frigidaire fridge
Everyone in the shop told me to just swap the whole sealed system, but I found a local rebuilder in Cleveland who does them for $350. It took an extra day for the part to come in, but the fridge has been running fine for eight months now. Has anyone else had luck with rebuilt compressors on newer models, or did I just get lucky?

That rebuilder in Cleveland must have a solid process.

Honestly, I felt the same way for years. What changed my mind was seeing their test data on failure rates compared to new units, which was surprisingly close. It made me reconsider the whole "new is always better" thing.

But that's a huge gamble on a fridge that new, isn't it? You're trusting a rebuilt part in a sealed system that's already failed once. @viola84, a solid process is one thing, but how long does that rebuilder test them for? Eight months feels good now, but a new compressor should last years longer. I've just seen too many of these come back with the same problem after a year.
