Had to choose between digging out a colonial well shaft myself or hiring a team with a vac truck

Found an old well on my property in Virginia last year. Figured I could save cash and dig it out by hand. After three days of mud and finding nothing but a broken bottle, I called a crew with a vac truck. They pulled up a 1760s shoe buckle and a clay pipe in two hours. Guess I shoulda known when to tap out from the start, huh?

Ngl you missed the whole point of doing it yourself. That three days of digging was probably the most honest work you've done in years. Hiring a vac truck just means you paid someone else to have the fun, and now you're stuck with a story about how you gave up. I bet you didn't even post a video of the muck or the sweat. That's the real treasure right there, the grit and the struggle. The buckle and pipe are just stuff, but the memory of fighting that mud hole is forever.

Man, calm down @the_jordan. It's a hole in the ground, not some life-changing spiritual quest. You're acting like he ran away from climbing Everest. Sometimes you just want the thing done and over with. Not everything needs to be a gritty survival story. He got the buckle and pipe, that's the point. The "struggle" is just extra hassle most people don't need.
