Showerthought: I used to just read the press releases about new digs, but after the 2023 Jericho site report, I started actually looking at the raw field notes online.

Honestly, seeing the actual sketches and 'maybe' notes from the trench supervisor gave me a way better feel for the uncertainty of the process than any polished article ever did, so has anyone else found a specific report that changed how you follow a discovery?

Piperr58 gets how the boring bits make the good stuff hit harder.

What about the boring stuff, like soil reports? The Merv project puts up PDFs of their daily logs. Reading "layer 27, more of the same compacted clay, no finds" for a whole week makes you feel the grind. Then you hit the entry that just says "coin hoard, stop everything" and it's a total gut punch. That slow burn made the find real for me.
