That week we found a Roman child's shoe in a drainage ditch...
Last fall during a dig outside York, we pulled a tiny leather sandal out of this muddy trench and suddenly the whole site felt different. It was sized for a kid maybe 6 years old, sole barely 5 inches long. Has anyone else had a small find like that completely shift how they see the people behind the artifacts?

Found a tiny bronze mirror once that made me feel the same way.

Wait, @aliceg61, did it have any markings on the back? I swear those old mirrors have a way of making you feel like you're looking at someone else. Tbh I found one at a flea market years ago and it gave me the creeps for weeks. Ngl the patina on bronze just hits different. You can tell it's been through some stuff. Wish I still had mine but it got lost during a move.
