Rant: Concord rent prices are out of control and nobody's talking about it
I was looking at apartments in Concord last week and found out the average rent for a one bedroom is now $1,600 a month. That's up almost 40% from 5 years ago according to the NH Housing report I read. My buddy pays $1,400 for a drafty place near downtown and they raised his rent $200 this year. How are regular people supposed to live here when wages haven't budged? Anyone else seeing the same thing in their town or is Concord just getting hit worse?

Good point about the property taxes @oliviahenderson, they're definitely part of the problem. But I've been watching town meeting records and Concord actually kept tax increases below 3% the last two years, which is way lower than nearby towns like Manchester or Hooksett. The issue is more that developers are building those fancy "luxury" units on North Main and pocketing the high rent without needing to blame taxes. My cousin works at a coffee shop downtown and her landlord raised her $150 just because "market rate went up," not because his tax bill went up.

Is anybody checking what the property taxes are doing in Concord though? A huge chunk of rent increases come from landlords passing along higher tax bills directly to tenants. If town spending isn't getting reined in, the rents are just gonna keep climbing no matter what.
