I tried asking a vague question versus a detailed one on a forum last month.

The vague one got two short replies, but the detailed post with a specific example from my kitchen sink project got eight helpful answers. What makes a question good for getting real help here?

Specific details show you've already put in some work, so people feel their effort won't be wasted. A vague question can seem lazy, like you want others to do the basic thinking for you. Giving context makes others want to match your effort.

Wow, I used to ask vague stuff but your example totally changed my mind.

Read somewhere that specific questions give people a concrete problem to solve.
