The way people fold fitted sheets is driving me crazy

I was helping my mom fold laundry last weekend and she spent 5 minutes trying to get a fitted sheet flat. She kept folding it into a rectangle and it looked like a crumpled mess. Does anyone actually have a method that works without wanting to throw the sheet across the room?

Wait, have you tried the "ball it up and hide it" method too?

The "crumpled mess" line is exactly why I gave up on folding them at all. Do you actually sleep in a bed with perfectly smooth sheets every night, or is this just a thing people do for Instagram? Because I've seen those folding tutorials and they always look so easy with the corners tucked in, but mine never stay put once you actually move the sheet off the bed.

Oh man, I had a buddy who tried one of those folding methods after watching a YouTube tutorial. He spent like 20 minutes getting it all perfect, corners lined up and everything. Then his girlfriend came home, flopped onto the bed to take a nap, and the whole thing just exploded into a wrinkled disaster. He said he just stared at it for a minute and then threw the fitted sheet in the back of the closet. Have you ever tried the "shove it in the pillowcase" method instead?

Whoa, wait. Your buddy's girlfriend just flopped onto the bed and the sheet EXPLODED? Like it actually burst apart? That's either the worst folding tutorial in history or he's got some kind of magic sheet that only stays folded during quiet time. I tried that pillowcase method once. It just made a lumpy pillow that my wife kept asking about. Honestly, I think the only winning move is to just buy a new set of sheets every time you do laundry and let the old ones live in the back of the closet.
