My daughter's newfound love for car fixes has me seeking guidance on safety
My 10-year-old has been hanging out in the garage every time I work on our truck! I love that she's curious about mechanics, but I'm nervous about letting her use tools or get near moving parts. Just yesterday, she reached for a wrench while the engine was still warm and I had to stop her fast. How do you balance teaching your kids with keeping them safe in the shop? I've started with letting her watch and name parts, but she's begging to help with real tasks. What are some hands-on but super safe jobs I can give her? I'd appreciate any tips from parents in the trade!

Hey, have you thought about letting her plan the whole job first? Like reading the manual together and drawing out the steps with crayons before any tools come out? It turns safety into a game she controls.

Ever notice how @alice121's trick works for adult tasks too?

Man, that's so true. What @lucas_perez said about adult tasks really makes sense. I've tried drawing steps for fixing my bike, and it makes hard jobs feel easier by helping me spot problems before I start. It turns a boring task into something you can handle, just like alice121's crayon idea.
