Finally compared the dealer warranty to a third party one on my 2018 F-150
The dealer quoted me $3,200 for a 5 year plan but the independent company I found through a buddy covered the same stuff for $1,800 and actually paid out when my AC compressor blew last month so why would anyone stick with the dealership?

That dealer markup is basically a tax on not shopping around, and the third party companies are often quicker to pay out since they don't have the same office politics dragging their feet on claims. The real trick is making sure the independent warranty is from a company with a solid reputation (you know, not some fly-by-night operation) so you don't end up fighting them when something major breaks.
