I finally stopped ignoring the map on the Tahoe Rim Trail

I always thought I could just follow the cairns and skip checking the map. Ended up taking a wrong turn near Marlette Lake that added 4 extra miles to my day. Took me almost 3 hours to figure out where I was and bushwhack back. Has anyone else spent way too long trusting trail markers over a simple map?

That's basically life though, right? We all skip the instructions because we think we've got it figured out, then end up walking in circles for way too long.

Three days I spent trying to put together a bookshelf before I found the instructions under the couch, @spencer_hayes71. At least in real life you don't have to apologize to a piece of furniture for assuming you knew better than the manual.
