TIL that a 3-day permit for the Enchantments in Washington is worth the lottery stress after I saw a mountain goat lick a rock for salt right next to my tent.

I read about the Wave in Arizona last year. The daily permit lottery only allows 64 people total. The hike is tough with no marked trail, but the striped sandstone walls look unreal in person. It feels like walking on another planet. That level of crowd control keeps the place from getting ruined.

Oh man, the Wave is actually 20 people a day, not 64. Still a brutal lottery but totally worth the sandstone views.
