TIL to never trust a squirrel's judgment about branch stability after one dropped a whole walnut on my hardhat in Cincinnati.

I was doing a crown reduction on a massive pin oak in Eden Park when a squirrel, apparently offended by my pruning cuts, launched a green walnut that hit my helmet with a loud 'thonk', making my ground guy jump and almost drop the lowering rope.

Serious question, ever had a 12-hour day turn around because of one simple trick?

Spent all Tuesday in our shop in Boise chasing a phantom knock on a 6.7 Powerstroke, ready to pull the engine. My buddy just said 'check the flywheel bolts,' and sure enough, three were finger-loose. Anyone got a better torque sequence for those?

Question about fabric weight and drape in summer dresses

I was showing a friend a linen dress I made last month and she said it looked stiff, like a sack. She told me to feel the fabric of her own dress, a rayon blend she got in Austin. The difference was huge. Her dress moved with her, mine just hung there. I realized I'd been picking linen based on the idea it was 'breathable' for summer, but I wasn't checking the actual weight or weave. I went back to my local shop and compared a 5 oz linen to a 3.5 oz one, and the lighter one draped completely differently. Now I always bring a small weight to the store to test how fabric falls over my hand before I buy. Has anyone else had a fabric choice totally change the look of a simple design?

Question about using a torque wrench versus just going by feel on head bolts

I was putting a head back on a 6.7 Powerstroke last week and my old boss always said 'just get them tight, you'll know'. I tried it his way on one side and used my Snap-on digital torque wrench on the other, following the factory three-step pattern. The side I did by feel ended up with a 20 foot-pound spread between bolts when I checked it later. Has anyone else found that skipping the torque spec on something that big is just asking for a comeback?

Can we talk about how many folks skip the future log?

I noticed a bunch of my friends who started bullet journaling this year just jump straight into monthly spreads. I used to do that too, but then I missed a friend's birthday in April because I didn't write it down anywhere in January. So last month, I finally set up a proper future log with all six months on two pages. It took maybe ten minutes with a ruler. Now when I flip to my new monthly, I just move those dates over. Has anyone else found this step saves them from missing stuff?

A grill-out chat about engine noise shifted how I explain things

We were cooking burgers and a buddy mentioned his fear of weird plane sounds. I started to list all the normal creaks and groans, but he looked totally lost. It dawned on me that what's everyday for us sounds like danger to others. Now I just say 'most sounds have a simple fix' unless they ask more. Kind of funny how that works, huh?
