Finally got a clear view of the Orion Nebula from my driveway

Last month, I could barely make out a faint smudge through my 4-inch scope. Last night, after letting my eyes adjust for 30 minutes and using a UHC filter, the gas clouds were obvious. The difference was just waiting for true darkness and using that filter. Anyone have other filter recommendations for suburban skies in Ohio?

My telescope mostly just shows me my neighbor's porch light.

What's the point of seeing more gas clouds if you're just going to freeze in your driveway for half an hour? That sounds like a lot of work for a slightly less faint smudge. Maybe the problem isn't the light pollution, it's the expectation that Ohio suburbs are a good place for this hobby. Porch lights are part of the charm.

Wait, you stood outside in Ohio for thirty minutes in the dark?
