Hot take: I moved my checking to a credit union in Fargo and the 2 day hold on my paycheck made me switch back
Everyone in this community swears credit unions beat big banks every single time, and I bought into it hard. So back in April I opened a checking account at a credit union branch in Fargo and moved my direct deposit over, and I was ready to tell everybody how great it was. Then the first payday hit and my money sat in limbo for 2 days while my old bank used to post it the same morning. I called and the lady explained it was just how their check hold worked, and there was nothing she could do about it, no matter how long I'd been a member. I run everything off my checking, rent, car payment, groceries, so 2 days of not knowing when my money shows up is a real problem, not a tiny one. I get that big banks have fees and dumb policies, but getting paid on time every single Friday is worth more to me than free lollipops at the counter. So I moved back after 6 weeks, and no, I am not ashamed of it. Is there a credit union that actually posts direct deposits early, or did I just pick a bad one?
