Just hit 5 years with the same free checking account, no fees at all
I was digging through my bank statements last night and realized I haven't paid a single monthly maintenance fee since 2019 with this credit union in Oklahoma. Has anyone else found a bank that actually sticks to their no-fee promise long term?

Five years is a solid run but @michael_craig I wouldnt bet the farm on it lasting forever. Credit unions can change rules just like any bank, its just usually slower. That $2 fee on paper statements is exactly the kind of sneaky crap they pull when they need more revenue. I had a credit union for 8 years no fees then suddenly they charged $5 if my balance dropped under $100. Watch your statements like gracea19 said because one quiet policy update can kill the whole deal.

Michael_Craig says his credit union's been solid, but "solid" is carrying a lot of weight there. My bank was "solid" for three years before they randomly slapped a $2 fee on paper statements I never asked for. You're lucky you got five years, but I'd still be watching every single statement like a hawk. One typo in their fee policy and that free account suddenly has more strings than a puppet show.
