A customer told me my chain waxing method was too aggressive

He said I was using too much heat and cooking the lube out of the factory grease, which just leaves a dry chain. I switched to a low-heat soak in a crockpot set to 'warm' for 30 minutes instead of boiling. Anyone have a better method for prepping a new chain for wax?

Sounds like your customer is confusing chain prep with making soup. The factory gunk needs to go, full stop.

Factory gunk needs to go" is the understatement of the YEAR. You're telling me some people just WARM that stuff and call it clean? That's wild.

The factory grease is mostly a rust inhibitor, not a real lube. Cooking it out is the whole point of the prep. Your warm soak might not get it all out, which can mess with the wax sticking later.
