I thought those magnetic socket holders were just a gimmick for the garage guys.

My foreman insisted we try one on a big tank job in Philly, and it saved us from dropping a 3/4 inch drive into the vessel three times. Anyone have a tool trick they swore was nonsense that actually worked?

Funny how the simple stuff gets laughed at until it saves your hide. Those magnetic strips are a lifesaver when you're working overhead or in a tight spot. Yeah, they'll grab some chips, but a quick wipe fixes that. Dropping a socket into a tank means a retrieval job that kills half your day. Sometimes you just need the right tool to keep things from going south.

Sometimes the simplest tools get dismissed as useless. That magnetic holder just solved a problem you didn't know you had. What other basic gear gets overlooked until it saves the day?

I get what you mean @victor_ward, but I've found those magnetic holders just create new problems. They drop stuff when you bump them and collect metal shavings. A simple hook or a strip of Velcro tape is way more reliable for holding tools.
