Hot take on a bad week: my book club hated The Midnight Library but I think they missed the whole point

We debated it for 3 hours last Tuesday and everyone called it predictable fluff, but that chapter where Nora finally chooses her own life hit me so hard I cried twice, has anyone else felt like a book the group trashed actually saved your brain for a bit?

Did you bring that chapter up during the debate at all? I feel like the group might’ve been too focused on the surface plot about the library itself and completely missed how personal her journey of picking her own life actually was. That part where she’s in the treehouse as a kid and realizes she already had good moments, that’s what stuck with me most. What did they say when you tried to defend that part?

I mean, when you said it "saved your brain for a bit," that's a really specific feeling. Was it more about the idea of starting over, or the way she finally saw her own life had value even without a big change? Idk, sometimes a book hits you in a spot the rest of the group just doesn't get.
