Used to speed through chapter summaries on Wikipedia before book club meetings now I just read the first and last 50 pages
Got caught three years ago when someone asked about a character that only appeared in the middle of the book. Had to fake my way through a whole 20 minute discussion about 'The Goldfinch' and it was miserable. Now I do the 50 page trick and it works way better. Has anyone else found a lazy method that actually helps you contribute to the conversation?

Wait, did the person quizzing you catch on to the 50 page trick too, or did you get away with it until now?

Oh wow, @morgan.mary you're totally right to ask about that. I actually got called out on it during our second meeting when my "notes" didn't match the page numbers on her copy of the textbook. She wasn't mad though, just laughed and said it was a creative attempt at faking it. Have you ever tried something like that before?
