Found out my old grinder burrs were 6 years past their prime
I was reading some random thread about burr wear and someone mentioned most home grinders should have burrs swapped every 500 pounds of coffee. Did the math on my Baratza Encore and I've probably run close to 1,800 pounds through it since 2018. No wonder my last few bags from that shop in Portland tasted duller than I remembered. Has anyone else actually replaced burrs and noticed a big jump in clarity or is it mostly placebo?
Man, 1,800 pounds is wild. That grinder has been through a whole life with you. I feel for you on those Portland bags, nothing worse than paying good money and getting a flat cup because the burrs are shot. Six years is a long run, so yeah, a fresh set will probably feel like a totally new grinder once you break them in.
