Switched from a blade grinder to a burr grinder and my morning coffee changed in 2 days

I was using this old blade grinder I got for $15 at a thrift store for like 3 years. Finally picked up a used Baratza Encore off Facebook Marketplace for $80 last week. First cup I made the next morning I could actually taste the difference. No more dusty fines mixed with big chunks. Even my wife noticed and she never comments on coffee. Anyone else have a similar upgrade moment that made you wonder why you waited so long?

lmao the burnt dirt mixed with gravel description is way too accurate. It's wild how we just accept bad coffee for years because we don't know any better. The biggest difference for me was that I could finally taste the actual coffee notes instead of just "hot brown liquid." Did you end up buying a nicer grinder after that camping trip or did you stick with the hand grinder for a while?

Oh man, Ngl I had almost the exact same thing happen with my old Cuisinart blade grinder. I thought I was making decent coffee for years until I borrowed my buddy's hand grinder on a camping trip and suddenly realized my morning brew tasted like burnt dirt mixed with gravel. The fines and chunks thing is real, it's like brewing with a handful of sand and a handful of rocks. Tbh now I can't even look at a blade grinder without side-eyeing it.
