My line snapped on a big chimney job last Thursday

I was setting up for a repoint on a two-story chimney in the old part of town. I had just hung my line and was about to start when the mason's twine gave way, sending my level and plumb bob straight down. I had to scramble down the ladder to check for damage, luckily nothing was hit. I keep a spare roll in the truck now, but what's the strongest line you all use for high work?

Man, that's a scary drop. So the braided line with the core, is that the kind that feels almost like a thin rope?

That "spare roll in the truck" is a lifesaver, I do the same. For high work like that, I switched to braided mason line a while back. The stuff with the polyester core is way stronger than the twisted kind. It costs a bit more but it doesn't snap on you out of nowhere. I still check it for nicks all the time though, no line is perfect.

Wait, isn't mason line usually nylon, not polyester?
