Vent: Got told my mortar mix was too wet for a chimney rebuild in Duluth
A veteran mason said 'that's soup, not mortar' and now I always check the slump with a trowel before I start. Anyone else get stubborn about their mix ratio?

Oof, been there. That's a brutal way to learn.

Yeah, brutal learning is rough, but writing stuff down helps it stick.

Three days in a row of 12 hour shifts taught me that lesson real quick. I started keeping a small notebook in my truck, just jotted down the key things I kept tripping on. It didn't have to be pretty or full sentences, just enough to jog my memory later. After about a week, I noticed I wasn't making the same mistakes as much. The act of writing it out forces your brain to slow down and actually process what went wrong. Sticky notes on the visor work too, if you're on the move a lot.
