That "premium" olive oil I bought for 12 bucks was a total scam

I was paying extra for cold-pressed single-origin bottles until my friend (who works at a grocery distributor) told me most of those fancy oils are just repackaged cheap stuff from the same supplier. The tipping point was when he showed me a blind taste test where store brand oil beat a $18 bottle from Italy. Anyone else ditched fancy ingredients for generic?

Yeah the whole "single origin" thing is a joke. I found out those fancy labels often just slap a pretty logo on a generic bottle from the same farm that supplies the cheap stuff. The real scam is that you're paying for marketing, not quality.

You've hit the nail on the head, @jamiekim. I fell for that single origin nonsense myself a few years back with an expensive olive oil. Turns out the fancy bottle I was gushing over came from the exact same harvest as the store brand I used to buy for a third of the price. The only difference was the sticker and the pretty story they made up for it. Once you see through the marketing, you realize you're paying for a fairy tale, not better quality.
