Almost ruined a week's worth of dinners with one dumb habit

I was batch cooking on Sunday like I always do, throwing together a big pot of lentil soup and some rice and beans for the week. About halfway through I realized I had been rinsing my rice in the same colander I use for raw chicken without actually washing it between uses. I mean I always just gave it a quick swish under hot water and called it good. What tipped me off was when I grabbed the colander and it still had a faint greasy feel on the rim from the chicken skin last Tuesday. That moment hit me hard because I've been doing this for months and never once thought about cross contamination. Now I'm sitting here wondering how many times I've given myself or my family a mild case of food poisoning without even knowing it. Has anyone else had that moment where you realize your kitchen routine is actually kind of gross?

Jordan the rinsing doesn't really fix the grease or bacteria on the colander surface.

Did your friend still eat the soup after that realization?

Honestly I see it differently, I mean just knowing where it came from wouldn't stop me from eating it if it tasted good.
