Well, there was a whole article in the local paper about weird potluck dishes. It mentioned a recipe almost exactly like this, with hot dogs and cornflakes. Can you believe people eat that? The thing is, these kinds of meals often come from trying to use what you have on hand. But mixing salty hot dogs with sweet cornflakes might be too much for some folks. Still, it's funny how one dish can get everyone talking, right?

You mentioned that these meals come from using what's on hand, and I get that. But hot dogs with cornflakes is a step too far for my taste. The salty and sweet mix just doesn't sit right with me. I remember my aunt making something similar once, and no one touched it. It's funny how potlucks can bring out the weirdest recipes. Makes you think about what people consider food in a pinch.

My cousin's wedding potluck had a jello salad with shredded carrots and mayo that still haunts me, so I get where you're coming from, @nancy_ellis. Some combos are just a cry for help from the back of the pantry. I once tried to make a fancy mac and cheese with cinnamon because it was the only thing left in the spice cabinet... that was a quiet dinner. You're right though, it really shows what people will call a meal when they're desperate.
