Serious question, was I the only one cooking dried beans wrong for years?
I soaked pinto beans overnight every time and still ended up with crunchy ones after 3 hours of boiling. Last week my neighbor saw me struggling and said I wasn't adding baking soda to soften the water. Has anyone else had a household trick like that totally change how they cook?

Start by thinking about all the little shortcuts we pick up through trial and error. Nobody tells you how to properly hold a drill or the best way to floss without making a mess, @hugo_nelson, you just figure it out through messy attempts. Those unspoken gems are the ones that really stick with you.
