That neighbor who insisted dried beans are always cheaper than canned

My neighbor Beth lectured me for 10 minutes in the aisle at Aldi about how canned beans are a waste of money. I finally asked her if she counts the gas to simmer them for 3 hours plus the electricity or the time she spends soaking overnight. She just stared at me and walked away - anyone else deal with people who forget time and energy have costs too?

Does she also hand wash her dishes to save on dishwasher detergent?

Oh I actually started doing that years ago! I was single and figured why run a half empty dishwasher so I just hand washed everything in like 5 minutes. Now I still do it even with a family... it's kind of relaxing honestly.

she counts the gas to simmer them for 3 hours plus the electricity" - that's actually a good point @piperr58 but hear me out lol. If you make a big batch of dried beans in a slow cooker or pressure cooker, the energy cost is basically nothing per serving. Plus no cans to recycle or pay for at the store. Time wise you just set it and forget it.
