Wasted $30 on a fancy garlic press that broke in a month
I got talked into buying this stainless steel garlic press at a kitchen supply store near Columbus. The guy said it would last forever and never clog up like the cheap ones. First week it worked great, no complaints. But by week three the handle started getting loose, and by week four it just snapped right off when I was pressing a single clove. So I went back to my old method of smashing garlic with the flat side of a knife. Costs nothing, takes ten seconds, and I never have to clean a gadget that traps garlic bits in every little hole. Has anyone else fallen for a kitchen tool that sounded good but ended up being a waste?

You said it "sounded good but ended up being a waste," but I actually think that garlic press was probably user error. I've got a cheap one from a dollar store that's held up for three years now, and I use it at least twice a week. You have to line up the clove right and not crank down like you're trying to crush a rock. That handle snapping off after a month sounds like maybe the screw was already loose when you got it, and you just didn't tighten it.

Yeah okay @irisg57, it's a garlic press, not a life skill test. If a tool snaps in a month it's not a good tool, simple as that.
