Why does everyone buy bagged rice when the bulk bins exist

I was at the Kroger on Elm Street last week and saw a guy grab a 5-pound bag of jasmine rice for $8. The bulk bin was right next to it at $1.29 a pound. That's almost $2 more for the same thing just because it's in a bag with a picture of a rice field. I get that some people don't have a scale at home but you can just estimate and it'll still be cheaper. Anybody else notice this at their store or is it just my local one?

Ugh I feel you, it's such a ripoff honestly.

And the thing is, the bulk rice is almost always fresher because it moves faster than those bags sitting on the shelf for months. People act like they need the bag for portion control or something, but you can literally just fill up a reusable container with however much you want. I've been buying bulk rice for years and it's saved me a ton of money, especially with how prices are going up everywhere. The bag is just a marketing trick to get people to pay more for the same grain.
