My $12 bus ticket from Berlin to Prague turned into a 14-hour nightmare
I booked a cheap overnight bus last month thinking I'd save on a hostel night. The bus was two hours late leaving Berlin, then broke down near the German border around 3 AM. We sat on the side of the road for four hours with no AC in summer heat. The company sent a replacement bus, but it added six extra hours to the trip. I finally got to Prague at 2 PM instead of 8 AM, completely wrecked and having missed my free walking tour. I learned that the super cheap tickets sometimes mean older buses and no backup plans. Has anyone else had a budget bus trip go this wrong, and is there a way to tell which companies are more reliable?

That 14 hour bus story is just the modern version of getting what you pay for. We see it with cheap flights that nickel and dime you for a seat and a bag.

It's the same with those cheap tools at the hardware store. You buy the bargain drill and it breaks halfway through a simple job, costing you more time and money in the end. The initial low price tricks you, but the real cost is always in the hassle.

Oh man, "save on a hostel night" is the funniest part! You paid for that hostel stay in pure suffering instead.
