Cooked dried black beans for the first time after years of canned

I was spending like $2.50 a can on organic black beans for my weekly meal prep. Finally bought a 2lb bag of dried ones for $3.50 at the grocery store last weekend. It took about 90 minutes on the stove plus an overnight soak, but I got the equivalent of maybe 8 cans out of that one bag. Has anyone else made the switch and found a go-to method that cuts down the cooking time?

Mike soaked them overnight then simmered for like 45 min and they came out perfect.

Honestly I always thought overnight was overkill but this might make me rethink that.
