Finally broke $500 in my grocery envelope after 4 tries and honestly I don't get why this one worked
I've been doing the cash envelope thing for groceries since March and kept blowing past my $500 limit by like $60 to $90 every single time, usually because of dumb mid-week Target runs. This week I finally came in at $487 and I just stared at the receipt like it was a typo. What's the one thing that finally clicked for you when your budget stopped leaking?
The thing that fixed it for me was switching my grocery run from Sunday afternoon to Saturday at 7am. Sounds dumb but the store is dead quiet, I'm not hungry yet, and I actually stick to my list instead of grabbing whatever looks good. I also stopped keeping the envelope at home and started carrying only the cash I planned to spend that trip, nothing more. When the money runs out mid-aisle, you learn real fast to skip the chips. The Target runs died once I started doing one store, one trip, once a week. Boring but it works.
