I used to think the envelope system was a waste of time, but a trip to the hardware store changed my mind.

I was at the local Ace buying supplies for a job, and I had $200 cash set aside for it. I saw a new tool I wanted, but holding that physical cash made me stop and realize it would blow the budget. That physical limit worked better than any app alert. Does anyone else find that old-school methods click better for certain spending categories?

Actually, that's the envelope system (you just used it).

My cousin swears by cash for her grocery budget. She says seeing the money leave her wallet makes her think twice about snacks.

Paule53 is right, that's the classic envelope method. The original post just found it works for hardware stuff too.
