My brother called my budget 'a wish list with numbers' and it stung

He looked at my spreadsheet last month and said, 'This isn't a plan, it's just a list of what you hope happens.' He was right. I had a line for groceries at $400 but no real tracking. I switched to using cash envelopes for food and gas, just $80 a week for groceries. After three weeks, I've already saved $60 from that category because I physically see the money leaving. It makes me think twice about every purchase. Has anyone else moved to a cash system after a similar wake-up call?

Honestly, that wake-up call from your brother sounds harsh but super useful. Read an article once about how swiping a card tricks your brain into not seeing it as real money. Tbh, moving to cash is like a physical budget you can't ignore. Seeing that envelope get thin makes you way more careful than any spreadsheet number. Good on you for actually making the change instead of just feeling bad about it.

Cash makes you feel the spend, it's brilliant!
