My dad swore by buying cheap tools for years. Finally proved him wrong.

My dad always told me not to waste money on expensive tools. He said a $20 drill would work just as good as a $100 one. So I bought cheap tools for like 5 years and kept replacing broken stuff. Last month I spent $80 on a single good drill at Home Depot and it's been a game changer. I've already used it on 3 projects without any issues. My dad still won't admit I was right though. Has anyone else had a family member give bad budgeting advice that cost you more in the long run?

Ha, dude I feel this one. My uncle was the same way about socket wrenches until he borrowed my cheap one and it stripped on him mid job. Took him like three broken sets to finally get a decent Craftsman and now he won't shut up about it. Honestly sometimes you gotta learn the hard way, especially with family.

Small correction, and I don't mean to be picky, but Craftsman isn't what it used to be. They got bought out a while back and their newer stuff (especially the entry level stuff) isn't any better than the no-name brands. Your uncle might end up disappointed again unless he got a vintage one from before the 2000s or something. My dad went through this exact cycle with their ratchets, swore by the old ones, then bought a new set and broke two of them in a year. Just something to keep in mind if he starts bragging about his new Craftsman. They still make some good pro grade stuff, but the regular homeowner line is really hit or miss now.

Was your dad mad when your cheap drill broke on him too?
