Why I stopped buying generic garbage bags

I tried the store brand trash bags for 3 months to save $4 a box. Every single one ripped when I tried to take out the kitchen trash. Went back to Glad and haven't had a problem since. Anybody else find the cheap bags just aren't worth the frustration?

$48 a year on garbage bags is basically a light dinner out, not some huge life-changing savings. If the cheap bags pop open and spill coffee grounds and chicken bones on your floor, you're paying for that cleanup time and frustration. Glad works every time, so it's not about being wasteful, it's about not wanting to deal with trash all over your kitchen.

You said "every single one ripped when I tried to take out the kitchen trash" but I honestly think you might have just gotten a bad batch or are being too rough with them. I've been using the store brand from Kroger for about two years now and I can count on one hand how many times one has torn on me. The key is to not overfill them and to tie the bag properly before lifting it out. I'll take saving $48 a year over the price of Glad any day, especially since the landfills are full of plastic anyway. Maybe try a different store brand or give them another chance with lighter loads.

@benk26 I tried the Kroger brand myself last year and had the same problem as the original poster. Maybe I'm the one who's too rough, I once ripped three bags in one week and just stood there staring at the trash like it had wronged me personally. I figure I'm just clumsy enough that the $48 savings is worth paying for the extra thick bags.
