Choosing between a grid or dot grid for my first bullet journal

I went with a dot grid Leuchtturm1917 after my friend said it was easier for straight lines... it's been great for my weekly spreads but I still mess up spacing sometimes. Anyone have a good trick for keeping things even without a ruler?

Honestly used to be a strict grid person, thought dots looked weird. Tried a dot grid last year and it totally changed my mind. The dots give just enough guide for straight lines but disappear when you're drawing or writing. For spacing, I lightly pencil in tiny marks at the top and bottom of the page before I start inking.

So you're telling me @val554 that the dots just vanish when you need them to? That sounds like magic, or maybe my pens are just too heavy. I guess I'll have to try a dot grid myself to see if it's really that good.
