That fancy bread proofing basket I bought for 30 bucks
I spent $30 on a fancy wooden proofing basket for sourdough and it just made my loaves stick like crazy no matter how much flour I used. Anybody else find that a plain mixing bowl and a dish towel works way better for free?

Man, thirty bucks for a bread basket that just makes your dough stick? That is nuts. I would be so ticked off if I dropped that kind of cash and got a sticky mess in return. A plain old mixing bowl and a dish towel sound a hundred times better and cost literally nothing extra. Some of these fancy gadgets are just overpriced traps for home bakers. I have heard other people say the same thing about those proofing baskets too. You are probably better off saving your money for good flour instead.

Oh man, I went through the exact same thing last year... bought one of those fancy bannetons online and my dough stuck like glue no matter how much flour I used. Ended up just tossing it in the back of the cupboard. What actually worked for me was a simple metal colander with a clean flour-sack towel draped inside, dusted with rice flour. Rice flour is the real trick, it doesn't soak in like regular flour does.

@terry_barnes Different flours matter. Rice flour in a banneton changed everything for me.
