Wait, Nickelodeon's Doug was actually a pilot for a different show on Disney? Found that on a podcast deep dive last night.

I always thought Doug was just a Nick original, but apparently Jim Jinkins pitched a very similar concept to Disney first in the 80s and they passed, so how do we feel about the whole 'Disney's Doug' vs 'Nick's Doug' debate - does the original really count as a repackaged idea?

Did Disney ever actually explain why they passed on it the first time around?

My cousin actually worked at Disney right around when that decision was made, and she heard it was all about the weird mo-cap animation style being too risky for their brand at the time (which is funny because they ended up doing that whole live-action remake thing anyway). Still, they clearly changed their minds somewhere down the line.
