I was dead set against vocational rehab until they paid for my laptop
I figured it would be a waste of time with endless paperwork. But after 3 months they approved a $1,200 custom ergonomic setup for my work-from-home job. Has anyone else had luck getting equipment covered through the CA Department of Rehabilitation?

Man vocational rehab was a TOTAL game changer for me too. I was so skeptical at first because I heard horror stories about the wait times and the amount of hoops you gotta jump through. But once I actually got assigned my counselor, she was super helpful and pushed through a $900 standing desk and an ergonomic chair for my home office. It took about 2 months from start to finish, but that desk literally saved my back from being wrecked after 8 hours of sitting. I honestly think a lot of people give up too early or just assume it's a scam, but if you actually follow through it's legit.

My 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Patterson always said I needed a special keyboard because I typed with my fists. Fast forward to last year and Vocational Rehab actually got me one of those split ergonomic keyboards that looks like a spaceship. $400 right there, no questions asked. The paperwork was a nightmare though, I almost quit twice. But the counselor told me about a guy who got them to pay for his entire home recording studio because he was a musician with carpal tunnel. I think the key is finding a counselor who actually fights for you. My first one was useless, the second one got it done in 6 weeks flat.
