A guy in my shop last month tried to pay me with a broken lens he 'found'

He brought in a Canon AE-1 with a stuck shutter, and after I fixed it in about an hour, he pulled a busted 50mm f/1.8 out of his bag and said 'This should cover it, right?'. Honestly, it happened at my bench in Cincinnati and I just stared at him. How do you even start that conversation without making a customer mad?

A busted lens for an hour of skilled work?

My uncle's auto shop in Dayton sees this all the time with 'spare parts'. It feels like some people just don't value skilled labor at all. Where do you even draw the line between a bad deal and straight up disrespect?

That "spare parts" thing hits home. I had a guy try to pay for a film scan with a roll of expired, opened Kodak Gold he had in his glove box. It's like they're cleaning out their junk drawer and calling it a business deal.
